Day 10- Editing Suite

Today, we focused on making sure the sound was correct throughout and that there were no missing gaps. Then we decided to begin putting in all of the text such as the times, the saying at the ending of the film and ect. This is what we spent most of our editing time on but at the end we managed to finish it all. We realised that the text is really affective as it helps viewers understand what’s going on, as our film has a large amount of locations.

Day 9- Editing Suite

Now that were near the ending of our film, we was able to begin the last scene that the audience is able to find out where Edward actually lives now that his left his wife, which was simply just behind the bench. In this whole scene the whole camera angle was a point of view shot, so that the audience could see him walking there from his perspective and could possibly feel the emotion. This day of editing was very successful.

Day 8- Editing Suite

Before we started doing more editing we looked back again at our previous work and made any relevant changes needed. Then we began to edit the whole of Edwards short flash back with his wife, when they were in a picture together. Furthermore, we also at the end managed to change it into black and white also to make the effect of the flashback more visible and understandable we merged in the white flash.

Day 7- Editing Suite

Today we continued from yesterday and began to sync in the sound for the bench scene from the sound recorder. After we completed that we started to begin editing clips of the beginning of Edward’s second flashback and the scene where a poster of Joseph drops onto the bench. This was easier to complete on time as there were a limited amount of shots, so by us completing the rest of the bench scene, didn’t affect us completing today’s aims.

Day 6- Editing Suite

The Bench scene is the key moment in our film as it is the only part with dialogue and the characters meeting one another. This was the hardest bit we had to edit, as we wanted to use our close ups of their faces each time they spoke, so our audience would have a clear understanding of who was speaking and what was being said. But it took longer than anticipated as we had to make sure the conversation still made sense and we didn’t cut off any speech. As it was a long process we will have to continue doing it tomorrow as we need to sync the sound we have on the sound recorder.

Day 5- Editing Suite

Today we focused on Joseph walking out of the house and Edward walking towards the bench. We realised that the best shots were the long shots in presenting these things as it provides the audience with a view of what’s around them, so we didn’t use any of the close up shots that we had in the end.

Day 4- Editing Suite

Today we looked over scenes that we have done already over the past few days and made small changes, to make sure that everything flowed well. Then we began to organise the clips of Edward walking past a group of kids, which was really quick to do as it’s such a short scene.

Day 3- Editing Suite

Edward’s scene of getting ready in the public toilet was edited today. When we looked back at yesterday’s scenes of joseph getting ready, it looked more engaging than Edwards as Joseph has more of a vibrant personality. So to make Edwards scene more interesting we put all the different shots of him getting ready in the film.

Day 2- Editing Suite

Today, we began editing Joseph’s part of him getting ready in the morning. We got rid of most of the shots we had taken with the camera and kept the clean and quick shots for example the close up of him doing up his buttons on his shirt. This is due to the fact of us noticing that the scene would have dragged on for too long and would have become tedious for our audience. The longest part of doing this scene was making sure he pressed the button to the song at the same time the song started. Overall it was a successful day of editing.

Cut out Scene- Joesph's first scene (Kitchen)

Due to our actor Issac’s schedule we were unable to continue using him and had to find a replacement (Jordan). This was one of the scenes we shot with him, where he is making breakfast whilst listening to music.

Day 1- Editing Suite

Today we focused on Edward and his wife’s flashback. Where she finds out that his just been fired from his job and then later they have a huge argument were he ends up leaving. Whilst editing these aspects we realised we had to make the shots move fast during their argument, so that it’s portrayed more dramatic and intense. After we finished editing it all, we transformed the flashback into black and white.

Day 3- Filming

In our last day of filming we did Edwards scene in the public toilet and the beginning of his flashback whilst walking to his tent. Today we was worried about the weather forecast but luckily it didn’t rain whilst we was filming except it was cold conditions. The hardest part of the day was making sure that we stayed in focus during the point of view shot when Edward is walking, we wanted to minimise as much as possible the shaking in the camera. Additionally another cause of concern of the day was the lighting in the public toilet for Edward’s scene as when we had the natural light it was too dark and when we put the lights on it was too bright. So we had to think on the spot of ways to make it all work.

Day 2- Filming

Today of our filming are goal was to complete the bench scene with our two main characters and film Josephs bathroom scene. When filming this particular scene we knew from our recce that we could have some issues with it when doing the sound as the bench is along a main road. However me , my group and the actors managed to cope well with the scenario as the sound kit really helped us to hear the speech of our actors. When it came round to doing Joesph’s scene in the bathroom we successfully got everything we wanted done fast but we still repeated shots to make sure they were accurate.

Day 1- Filming

We started filming at 9:00am and are aim for the day was to film the whole scenes of Edwards and his wife’s argument and the flashback of them both in a picture. The day turned out very well, we managed to take a large variety of shots during Edwards and his wife’s argument. We had to re position props of where Edward was going to have his suitcase and throw his ring against the table. Instead of having it all at the front door we had the suitcase within the room he already was in and the ring being thrown in the hallway to portray effective camera angles for both props. As it was our first time working with our actor and actress we managed to identify their strengths and weaknesses and ways to communicate clearly so instructions were carried out correctly. The first day of filming was a good learning curve as we now know how to get things done quicker and how to plan the day, so that we get the best out of it.
